Wimbledon 2025: Referee Nico Helwerth, from phone controversy, “A day off”

The All England Club CEO said the referee who hosted the game at Wimbledon Sunday’s E-line Controversy Centre was “a day off”.

“Operator error” means that the ball tracking technology was accidentally deactivated in the fourth round at the Central Stadium on Sonay Kartal in the UK and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in Russia.

When the game points to 4-4, Qatar sends backhands, but this is not detected by the phone call system, which is the “stop” of two automatic calls.

Referee Nico Helwerth chose to replay this – Kartal won – but was criticized by Pavlyuchenkova and some experts for not using his power to overturn and call the ball out.

All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) said he “followed the established process”.

Asked about the absence of Rota, who was not among referees on Monday, AELTC CEO Sally Bolton said: “We often rotate referees. It’s kind of like players, and referees also need days off throughout the game.

“So he had a day off today.

“He’s good. Look, it’s important to say the agreement the referee follows follows the appropriate agreement. He does what he needs to do in court and takes action completely right.”
