Spurs are expected to sign Luke Kornet for four years, $41 million deal
The San Antonio Spurs have agreed to sign unrestricted free agent center Luke Kornet to reach a $41 million four-year contract. ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported.
Over the past few seasons, Kornet has become a solid reserve in the Boston Celtics rotation. He is a good rebounder on either side of the glass, mainly through dump and fold-out attacks and provides solid edge protection. In the role behind Victor Wembanyama, Kornet may flourish.
Money, this is indeed a bit high. Perhaps, it’s a premium relative to a young center in the market, and even just to pay for San Antonio to be identified as the right person.
The move marks another step in the Spurs’ playoff competition. De’aaron Fox was acquired for the final deal deadline, with Dylan Harper being the second pick in the draft last week. Along with the core of Wembanyama, Stephon Castle and Devin Vassell, it’s a very growing team.
