today: Mitchell will indeed undergo shoulder surgery on Tuesday. Murphy, speaking with McCalvy and other journalists, reiterated that Mitchell should have a chance to return before the end of the season, but a more obvious timeline will be established once the surgery is performed.
June 24: Brewer Outfielder Garrett Mitchell Having been recovering a tilt pressure that has put him on the injury list dating back to April, but now he seems to be facing a bigger absence due to new injuries. Manager Pat Murphy told the brewer to beat that Mitchell suffered a shoulder injury during his recovery (via Adam McCalvy link from MLB.com).
Mitchell’s initial diagnosis was that he had removed some anchoring agent installed on his left shoulder after undergoing surgery to resolve the subluxation in April 2023. He was advised to have another surgery, which would allow him to last for another eight to ten weeks, but he would get a second opinion before taking any action. Anyway, he won’t be back with Milwaukee anytime soon.
Mitchell, 26, was the winemaker’s first-round draft pick in 2020, suffered numerous injuries throughout his career. He is usually productive when he is able to play, reaching .264/.343/.463 in 2021-23 with 13 home runs and 20 steals in 365 sets. The strong output averaged as high as 0.389 in the game and masked a strikeout rate of 34.2%, but led to doubts about Mitchell’s ability to maintain that output. His Bats did lose this season before being injured, as Mitchell hit only .206/.286/.294, and there was no home run in 78 sets.
Brewers keep doing it Isaac Collins,,,,, Jackson Chourio and Sal Frelick Most nights are in the outfield. Collins was selected from the Rockies during the minor league phase of the 2022 draft Rule 5, an unexpected godsend. He showed up in 60 games (172 sets) and had four home runs and eight steals on the .260/.363/.404 diagonal while playing recent reps on the left field. Chourio occupied the mantle in the midfield and Frelick played on the right. Chourio has his own game, but he doesn’t score as well as Mitchell on defense.
Mitchell’s reward could free Collins in the infield. He has experience in second base in particular, but has some heroic attempts on the left side of the Diamond, which is a continuing issue throughout Milwaukee. Instead, according to his second opinion results with Dr. Neal Elattrache, Mitchell is likely to be placed in mid-August or even early September (presumably his progress in recovery in the upcoming program).
Mitchell still has only played 141 major league games, but on the 60-day injury roster, he will run for three years in the three years of the season. This will give him the ability to reach arbitration for the first time in the upcoming offseason. His lack of time on the court will keep his first year pay fairly bright, and he has been in control for three years outside of the season, so this setback – it is frustrating that no parties should put Mitchell at any non-cargo risk.
