On Wednesday afternoon, Paul Skenes and Jacob Misowelowski met in one of the most exciting pitching matches of the season so far. Skenes is the best pitcher in baseball, and Misiorowski is the hardest starter. This is a must see TV. Michael Baumann introduced the event in the most likely way, literally looking at its sublime. “Like my impression of firepower displays, the future of pitching is not my main gain,” Bauman wrote. “Look, these guys are big. ”He followed one of my favorite passages in the outstanding book on baseball writing:

This is too big. Both of them. The modern baseball court is designed for Scottish Irish immigrants with poor childhood nutrition and kidney disease. When the 5-foot-11 Honus Wagner is the biggest and most powerful player in the league. If you tell the founding fathers of baseball, one day the players will get so big that they can’t borrow pants from Dave Bautista… First, I think you have to explain Dave Bautista to Abner Doubleday and Alexander Cartwright. You get it.

I won’t write about Skenes-Misiorowski competitions. What else can I add? Instead, I will start this week’s mailbag by answering questions about the speed of Misiorowski’s shock. Before I do this, though, I would like to remind everyone that even though anyone can submit a question, the mail bag unique to Fanggraphs members.
