The Edmonton Oilers will eclipse the deal’s life after announcing an eight-year contract extension, retaining forward Trent Frederic’s services for much of the next decade for much of the next decade. The average annual value (AAV) salary of $3.85 million is higher than the $23 billion AAV contract this season.
Frederic was selected by the Boston Bruins to rank the 29th overall pick in the 2016 draft. He spent seven seasons in Boston and skated in 337 games before trading to Edmonton with three teams on the 2025 NHL trade deadline.
Frederic proved his worth in Edmonton, winning his second straight win in the Stanley Cup final earlier this month. In the bottom six roles, he recorded four points in the 22 playoff games for the Oilers, including a series goal in the first round against the Los Angeles Kings.
In Edmonton’s year-end media, Oilers General Manager Stan Bowman told reporters that he hopes Frederic will return to the team next season. “It’s a great experience to know him because he has a lot of attributes that I think are very important to a successful team,” Bowman said. “He’s very competitive, [a] Great teammates, great players. He brought the elements I think you need, which is very competitive. ”
Frederic, an eight-year NHL veteran, scored 55 points in 337 regular season games and accumulated 109 points. St. Louis, Missouri, scored four goals in 44 playoff games and recorded nine points.
