Paolini broke up quickly in the second set, but Swiatek was one of the best leaders on the women’s tour, capturing six of the final eight games to win.

Poles won four French Open titles, one at the U.S. Open, had not competed in any other pasture competition this year, and chose to do a week of training in Mallorca before taking part in Bad Homburg.

Last year, she did not play tennis between the French Open and Wimbledon start.

Meanwhile, Alexandra Eala defeated French woman Varvara Gracheva at Eastbourne 7-5 2-6 6-3 to reach the final.

Eala was the unforgettable Swiatek shocker at the Miami Open in March – the first player in the Philippines to reach the WTA Tour final.

The 20-year-old lost five straight games on the way to catch the second set before recombining the decider.

Eala ranked 74th in the world and was defended by Wimbledon champion Barbora Krejcikova in the first round of the SW19.

But first, she will face Australian teenagers Maya United or Russian Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in Saturday’s final.
