JJ Spaun’s 62-foot putter at the 18th Green in Oakmont is one of the most ridiculous final photos of any profession.
He nailed a putt on his first professional two putts, second behind the Tour’s second win, to sign a week of bad weather and even worse, ridiculously bad breakout, and in the end it all centered on the red character.
“I didn’t look at the scoreboard. I know, what the crowd said, if I craved twice, I might win, but I don’t want to play defense. I don’t want to do anything stupid to protect three shots or something,” the 34-year-old explained.
“Victor (Hoffland) has helped me a lot. It’s my footsteps. I’m more focused on his hard hits. I already know the line, but it looks like he gave it a good whip because it started raining there for the last 10, 15 minutes. The chance to get in, just like going in.”
The putter is a laboratory golf DL3 that will now go bankrupt in public history in the U.S. – in the past seven holes, he will insert about 137 feet of putters – in a sense, it is the first to win a professional zero-tar putter.
What is zero torque?
Zero torque pushers are designed to minimize or eliminate torque, which is the twisting force that occurs during the pusher stroke, especially at the eccentric hit rate.
It is worth noting that it remains balanced in all directions. Most putters have only face balance when they are balanced, but zero torque pushers maintain face balance even if they move with a more natural, more natural axial stroke. This helps keep the face square to the path.
