Why JJ Spaun creates history with putters

JJ Spaun’s 62-foot putter at the 18th Green in Oakmont is one of the most ridiculous final photos of any profession.

He nailed a putt on his first professional two putts, second behind the Tour’s second win, to sign a week of bad weather and even worse, ridiculously bad breakout, and in the end it all centered on the red character.

“I didn’t look at the scoreboard. I know, what the crowd said, if I craved twice, I might win, but I don’t want to play defense. I don’t want to do anything stupid to protect three shots or something,” the 34-year-old explained.

“Victor (Hoffland) has helped me a lot. It’s my footsteps. I’m more focused on his hard hits. I already know the line, but it looks like he gave it a good whip because it started raining there for the last 10, 15 minutes. The chance to get in, just like going in.”

The putter is a laboratory golf DL3 that will now go bankrupt in public history in the U.S. – in the past seven holes, he will insert about 137 feet of putters – in a sense, it is the first to win a professional zero-tar putter.

What is zero torque?

Zero torque pushers are designed to minimize or eliminate torque, which is the twisting force that occurs during the pusher stroke, especially at the eccentric hit rate.

It is worth noting that it remains balanced in all directions. Most putters have only face balance when they are balanced, but zero torque pushers maintain face balance even if they move with a more natural, more natural axial stroke. This helps keep the face square to the path.

Likewise, the shaft is usually connected to the pusher head in a way that centers of mass and reduces torque. Some designs offset the shaft behind the face or connect it to the center of mass. This means it remains stable on eccentric hit rate, requiring less manipulation in hand, and unfortunately appears like a pure strike.

And, since the shaft passes through the center of gravity of the head, it enters behind the face of the push rod, there will be a front axle tilting to place the player’s hand in the AA front press. The Spaun’s push rod is set to a two-degree shaft thinner, 34 inches long. It also has a G line of sight, which is a line that has always been.

The Lie Angle Balance putter was introduced in 2018 and endured some horrible twitches in the game, winning two championships in 2023 and nearly landing on the side of the US Ryder Cup. Other companies follow suit, but this is the first of many big wins in the game.

The original laboratory golfer is Direct Power 2.1 version, Spaun’s DF3 is a more compact head, trusting its size.

Before switching to the lab putter, Spaun used the Scotty Cameron Blade, where he was still maintaining that grip to maintain the club feel. At the end of the week, Oakmont Spaun’s putt was definitely a key weapon, seeing him gaining a 10-shot advantage on the field.
