Kraken Sign Cale Fleury to 2 years extension – Hockey Writer – Seattle Kraken

On June 20, Seattle Cleken announced that they had signed Cale Fleury for two years. The 26-year-old defender was awarded a contract of $890,000 for average annual value (AAV).
Fleury was one of the first players to join Kraken as he was selected by Seattle from the Montreal Canadaens in the expansion draft. He played nine games in Seattle’s inaugural season and won SINUS-3. He played 58 games in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he recorded 33 points with seven goals and 26 assists. He also scored a positive performance of 13 points. In 2022-23, he played 12 games with Kraken and recorded 1 assist.
During the 2023-24 season, Fleury spent most of the season with Kraken’s AHL branch, Coachella Valley Firebirds. It was the second season for the Firebirds, who played in 65 games, scored seven goals and scored 29 assists. The Firebirds entered the Calder Cup final, and Fleury participated in 18 playoff games, scoring five goals and earning nine assists. He only touched the NHL ICE for one game and recorded an additional 1.
Fleury has played the most games in Seattle over the past season, with 14 of them. He recorded an assist and earned an additional 1. He played again in the Coachella Valley for most of the season, playing in 39 games and recording 26 points with seven goals and 19 assists. The Firebirds made it to the playoffs again, but they didn’t surpass the second round. Fleury played three playoff games, a minus 1.
With Fleury now re-signing with Seattle, he no longer needs to worry about the free agent market that will begin on July 1. Otherwise, he will become an unrestricted free agent (UFA). Now, he signed with Seattle until the 2026-27 season.
It seems like Fleury will probably play with the Firebirds for most of the season. Seattle has signed five defenders and is now waiting for the game to see if they will also re-sign the Ryker Evans, the pending restricted free agent (RFA). Regardless of whether they re-signed Evans or not, Knekaken will get more benefits from NHL ready defenders, as Fleury doesn’t seem to be ready yet.
