Pirates resign Brett Sullivan to minor league deal

4:38 pm: Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reported that Sullivan and the Pirates quickly signed a new minor league contract. He will return to the triple Indianapolis without occupying a 40-man roster.
3:43 pm: catcher Brett Sullivan Free agents have been elected, according to his trading tracker on MLB.com. The Pirate passed him a waiver earlier this week after he assigned a mission. Because of his previous career, he has the right to go to the open market.
Sullivan, 31, has won sporadic major league game time in recent years. He played 33 games with Padres in 2023 and another seven games last year. He burned his last pick season in 2024 and was stuck in the 2025 pick. The monk replaced him from the roster in March and then traded him to the Pirates in a few weeks. and Joey Bart and Endy Rodríguez Fighting against injury, Bucs need more capture depth than Padres. Sullivan gave a brief introduction to the Pittsburgh lineup and competed in three more games.
Heading to the open market, he doesn’t have a huge major league track record to show. He has a .204/.250/.291 hit line of 112 major league cards. As one would expect, his minor league work is bigger in terms of quality and quantity. Since the beginning of 2021, he has stepped on the board of 1,670 times on the third-level A level since the 0.268/.338/.443 line. This means 88 WRC+, 12% below the league average, but receivers are usually about tens of the league rate.
Defensively, there are some advantages and disadvantages. Baseball Prospectus is a good rank in pitch frames and running competitions in Triple-A work, but his blocks are below par.
He will head to free agents to see what opportunities he is waiting for. Since he just cleared the waiver, it will probably be limited to minor league offers. The Pirates recently took Rodríguez Henry Davisso it is not shocking to see both parties reunited in a minor league deal.
