Second serve: Emma Raducanu’s Renaissance continues

The battle to become the number one in the UK women is an interesting sub-picture that will last in the pasture season.

Emma Raducanu replaces Katie Boulter as the lead after the Queen’s quarterfinals.

Rakanu rose to 36th place in the world and fell to 39th place after losing in the second round.

And it’s not only Raducanu and Boulter in the mixture. The UK’s No. 3 Sonay Kartal ranks 50th.

“very good [being British number one]but I won’t say that this is the most important thing for me.

“It was a pleasure to chase for me, and I’m sure Katie will enjoy it with me.

“The grass season is still very young, and the rest of the season is very young. We competed healthyly.”

Boulter, 28, had two years of grip in the position but was crossed by 22-year-old Raducanu when the ranking was released on Monday.

Although both players insist that this is not a big deal – their focus remains on the bigger picture of climbing the world rankings – it is a storyline that will rumble into Wimbledon at the end of this month.
