How rare is Patrick Reed making albatross in our Grand Slam at the U.S. Open?

It is extremely rare to hang out for an albatross in any course.

And do this in Major, immediately write golfers into history books.

Indeed, when Gene Sarazen stood out in the 15th hole feat of the 1935 Masters, it was called “the lens from all over the world.”

In Oakmont this week, all pre-match speeches were high scores and double-stage.

But it changed in Thursday’s fourth four-shot 4: Patrick Reed wields hard with his 3 wood, tilting from 286 yards.

Suddenly, we are all discussing the rarest birds and asking an obvious question: How many albatrosses are there in professional history?

First, let’s start with the US Open.

TC Chen (Oakland Hills, 1985), Shaun Micheel (Pebble Beach, 2010) and Nick Watney (Olympics, 2012) managed the Albatross at the U.S. Open – Captain America has now joined the club and is fourth.

Reed was over at the time, but in a quirky club he moved to two shots. Later, two-thirds of him scored a 73-point start.

“It’s one of the things that you don’t really see it in, this course is just going out and doing good golf.

To us, it wasn’t the first time he made a hole in three shots.

“Yes, that’s my third one. That’s not my best. My best is in Germany. It was in the delay of rain and we had to come back the next morning. (My caddie) Keith called me on the last hole for 4 irons and decided to hit 5 woods and go straight into the hole.

“The other is actually when I was a kid, the 9th place, the 5th man.

So we know there are four albatrosses in the U.S. Open, but what about the other majors?

Tally is surprisingly high, with the open champion leading by 8 shots. Surprisingly, there are five since 2000.

Here is the list. There are – waiting for it – 19 of them.

Except for young Tom Morris who scored 6, all players showed up at 5.
