76ers, Quentin Grimes “are far apart” on new contract

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Wednesday Today’s NBA.

Charania said: “I told me that both sides are very far apart in the deal.

Quentin Grimes missed media day, first preseason game

Bowman also told Charania that Grimes will not be playing in Philadelphia’s media day this week and that he will not be going to Abu Dhabi to compete in the Sixers’ preseason this weekend.

The Sixers extended their $8.7 million eligibility offer to Grimes in June, and the general consensus among NBA insiders is that the 25-year-old will eventually sign a one-year contract.

Jake Fischer reported on the Bleacher Report Live stream last month: “I can definitely say 76 people – asking all kinds of people in the organization – keep saying that Quentin Grimes is their top priority.”

“And they’re going to bring Quentin Grimes back, it’s just a matter of dollars and cents. He also had some buzz and he accepted the qualified offer.”

Charania also noted that in addition to Philadelphia’s recent injury history, the drafting of VJ Edgecombe of the 76ers could defy the 76ers to provide a long-term deal for Grimes.

“From the Sixers’ side, putting VJ Edgecombe in the high lottery obviously changed their backfield dynamics.”

“This year, there is a level of uncertainty about the health of major players like Joel Embiid and Paul George, and that makes the 76ers in terms of providing those high-value, high-year deals.”

Grimes have three options, the 76ers

Charania explains that there are three options at this juncture.

The first is to have him sign a $8.6 million qualifying offer to stay with the team, the second will be a signing, and the third is a one-year deal worth more than the qualifying offer.

Through its voice, the Sixers may not make years of deals to the Grimes.

This latest update is unfortunate because Grimes is the best offensive season of his NBA career.

Last season, Grimes averaged a career-high 14.6 points in 75 games between the Dallas Mavericks and the Sixers, shooting 46.7% from the field and 38.5% from three-point shooting percentage.

After the Mavericks traded him to Philadelphia, the former first-round game averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game, while the floor shot 46.9% from the field and was more than 37.3% from the arc.

According to basketball reference, Grimes also joined Tyrese Maxey, Allen Iverson and Hal Greer, becoming the only defender in the 76ers history to average 28.5 points in 10 games.
