If you feel a little calm after the final big title of the season, I hope you end it because the excitement starts in the world of golf in the next few months.
The Wyndham Championship was held at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina, marking the final game of the PGA Tour regular season. At the conclusion of the game, the top 70 players in the FedEx Cup will advance to the FedEx playoffs, starting next week at TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee. Those who remain active on the track of the 2026 season after FedEx fell. At the end of the Tour Championship, I found myself qualified for the top 50 players in the top 50 for the 2026 signature event.
Oh, and in late September, their friendly little golf gathered, and they said the Ryder Cup also has a lot of open spots.
Yes, a lot of things happened on the link, and it started this week at the Sedgefield Country Club, a relatively short Donald Ross design that stretches to 7,100 yards. The narrow tree-shaded fairway approaches smaller than average green vegetables that have traditional Ross runoff areas, which make it a key element this week. Driving accuracy is more important than the length of the tee, and a 100-175 yard croon match is an important part of the winning formula. Ball shooters and putters tend to thrive here, as do players who performed well in 400-450 yards, 400 4, as do 12 of those who fell 12 times.
The hotters near Augusta National are anti-lords, but have everything they have
go through:
Michael Bamberger
The course history and cross-success of other golf courses similar to Sedgefield are a very powerful component of the week’s obstacles. Webb Simpson won with Webb Simpson at Harbor Town, home of TPC Sawgrass and RBC Heritage. Matt Kuchar, Kevin Kisner, Si Woo Kim, Billy Horschel – This is a long list of players who have performed well in all Comp classes this week. I also looked at TPC River Heights (Travelers Championship), TPC Deere Run (John Deere Classic), Sea Island (RSM Classic) and another Donald Ross Design, East Lake Golf Golf Club, and we will be in the Tour Championship in a few weeks.
Robert McIntyre (35-1)
It feels like Bobby Mac is a bit under the radar this week. Matt Fitzpatrick is a favorite of the game and has performed well, but we can get the Scots for almost twice the price. Both players are in the top 70 in the standings, but if Fitzpatrick plans to play for the upcoming Ryder Cup with Europe, he does have some work to do. MacIntyre has not missed layoffs since the Masters. He finished sixth in Charles Schwab, second in the U.S. Open and seventh in the final game of the Open Championship. He also finished ninth in the Players Championship earlier this season and finished 17th with the Travelers last month. He has everything I want here: from tees, short games, goal-scoring accuracy, he makes a lot of birdies.
Lucas Glover (39-1)
There are so many horses in this course that won the race here two years ago, finishing in the top 10 or higher in all of our related courses, including the 2021 victory at the John Deere Classic. Glover has been playing great golf in the game this season, ranking well among players, and has recently ranked ninth among travelers and 23rd in John Deere and Open Championships. He has ranked in the top 16 in the field in the last 24 rounds, close to the hole between 100-175 yards, ranking first in 125-150. Lucas, warmed that putter.
Harry Hall (40-1)
No need to beg for a hit putt with Harry Hall, who ranked fourth in the last 24 rounds with SG: Put (Bermudagrass), or gets the best in the birdie. Like Glover, Hall is also one of the best Halls in the 100-175 yard holes close to the hole. He hasn’t missed nearly five months of layoffs and has only recently ranked ninth in Travelers.
Akshay Bhatia (40-1)
This is another great player, a great putt and can get rid of the tee accurately. He tied for Minnesota’s 54-hole lead last week before splitting it up in 75 rounds on Sunday. I hope a guy like Glover rebounded, who finished third in the TPC Sawgrass earlier this season.
Christiaan Bezuidenhout (55-1)
As a South African, he is not part of the Ryder Cup dialogue, but he is trying to get the playoffs to rank 74th in the FedEx Cup and he’s all good. Bezuidenhout finished the top 16 three times in his last eight games and ranked 20th in the 3m Open last week. He has been ranked 12th in 400-450 yards in the last 24 rounds, 12th in this field and 2nd in SG: Putting (Bermudagrass). He never missed a layoff in four attempts at Wyndham, with five cuts in the legacy of Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). He finished 13th in the Players Championship twice and finished second in the John Deere Classic.
Andrew Nowak (66-1)
We mentioned the mix of ball shooter and putters, and while Novak was definitely a hitter type for several seasons, putters also started firing. He went from No. 100 in the Tour in 2024 to No. 36 this season, for SG: Putter. Novak grew up in Raleigh, North Carolina – about 90 minutes from Greensboro, then went to Wofford College and about three hours from Sedgefield Country Club, so he was very familiar with the golf course and the surroundings. Earlier this season, Novak lost in the playoffs at RBC Legacy.
Chris Kirk (95-1)
This week, when he lost the playoffs, he missed it on Rocket Classic last month and we will jump around on Chris Kirk’s train. Kirk won Sea Island, fourth in East Lake, multiple top ten in Harbour Town and three top 15 in TPC Sawgrass. He stood out with precision, was excellent in scoring goals and was one of the best in the 100-150 yards game. Kirk is currently ranked 73rd in the FedEx Cup rankings. He has finished the top 15 twice in his last five games and has been runner-up.
