West Ham will be watching a busy summer to bounce back from the Premier League this season, but there could be a very significant departure before any signings are made.

Lucas Paqueta is expected to end his time at West Ham this summer. The Brazilian international team's season was tough in an ongoing personal issue, so he reportedly wanted to change the scenery.

Paqueta's next move seems increasingly likely to take him back to his homeland, and negotiations are said to be going well.

As RTI Esporte (via Sportwitness) reported, Flamengo is close to reaching a deal to sign Paqueta this summer, with Brazilian clubs keen to finally reach a deal before they fly to the United States to compete in the 2025 Club World Cup.

Paqueta is willing to return to Brazil and in recent weeks, negotiations are said to have made rapid progress. But for now, the player is not expected to make a final decision until he discovers the FA's investigation into so-called fixed crimes.

Flamengo believes that Paqueta will avoid any punishment, which is why they want to close the deal as soon as possible. West Ham is willing to sell, although the report points to Brazilians seeking loan agreements with optional buy clauses.

It's unlikely to fit West Ham, who undoubtedly would rather raise funds so they can sign a replacement. For now, it remains to be seen whether Paqueta has indeed left – if it is joining Flamengo.
