Revealed: The Secret Club that Helps Scottie Scheffler Wins His Third Grand Slam

Scottie Scheffler has had a third major success with the likes of Jordan Spieth, Vijay Singh and Billy Casper, and he does it with his trademark brutal style.
The first nine bogeys said there might have been a swing, but he ended up with five wins in 34 defenders, which led him to a total of 71 and 11 wins. Now, he has a 3-3 lead with a 54-hole lead, with his biggest win since Rory McIlroy won eight points in 2012.
For record, this is the tenth consecutive U.S. champion in the PGA Championship and his 11th victory worldwide since early 2024.
Scheffler takes a lot of time to play with his packaging. Unlike other players, he might go for a year before switching to some smaller wedges, and he has two Srixon Zu85 irons (3 and 4) there.
But this week, the tri-iron fell just for taylormade Qi35 7 wood. He carries the older QI10 3 wood, and 7 wood is there, which can give him a height of more than 3 iron and fit 3 wood. The 7-wood launches at a speed of about 1.5-2° higher than his 3-iron and rotates at about 1500 rpm.
The yardage he wanted to cover was to bring him about 240 yards of shooting, while the 7mu had a launch speed of 14.9°, carrying 245 yards at a ball speed of 5175 rpm at a ball speed of 160mph.
Key adjustments
Adrian Rietveld, a senior travel manager at Taylormade, made some key tweaks to make Scheffler stand out. When he tried at Torrey Pines, he made it more upright so that it could sit at the address, which was more like a 5-wood in construction, giving him a greater chance to hit the right number.
“We fit his 3 wood short, so it's not more than the distance he needs to get from the club, so when you fit the standard 5 wood, it's too far,” Rietveld said. “You don't want to add the attic to the 5 wood because it closes the face, so we built the 5 wood spec in the 7 wood. It has 5 wood power but has 7 wood rotation and launch conditions to produce the carry number he wants with the club.”
Scheffler has a Ventus Black 9X axis in 7 wood with a finished loft of 20°. The things below the grip are pretty, too – Shefleur has six double-sided tapes that give him the perfect grip in the club.
The three-time major champion had two eagles and 19 birdies in the week, and when he owned that mud ball on Thursday 16, he had only one double boat.
