4 smart device replacements trigger $17 million payday

After winning the Irish Open, Rory McIlroy revealed: “2025 will be the best, if not the best person of my career” and his device replacement plays a major role in this improvement.

McIlroy’s huge 28-foot hawk putt on the 72nd hole of Club K attracted one of the loudest crowds on the golf course.

The putt forced the Irish to kick off, where McIlroy beat Joakim Lagergren and beat County Kildare Irish fans on the third hole.

At the beginning of the final round, McIlroy cut a frustrated number. But with the help of the Taylormade Spider Tour X putter he has used since 2024, he made a 160-foot putter on the last day. Including that eagle, the second male ranked fifth on second and 43-foot birdie putts.

But his win at K Club is also striking with his first win, with a new set of MG5 wedges in his schoolbag, upgraded from MG4.

McIlroy has made many changes to his equipment this season, driven primarily by the dance changes in February and reflects his bonus income.

On the PGA Tour alone, his prize money rose from $10,893,790 in 2024 to $16,992,418 in 2025. That doesn’t include the $1,020,000 he earned at the Irish Open.

Here we look at all the device changes McIlroy makes in 2025.

Rory McIlroy’s new golf ball

McIlroy switched from the Taylormade TP5X ball early in the season to the softer Spin TP5. He also changed to a 60 low bounce wedge bend to 61°. That week, he won a prize for $3.6 million on the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-AM.

The Northern Irish admits that he likes the TP5 around the TP5.

McIlroy said: “I was a little stumbling.

“I haven’t really tested the 2024 TP5 yet, and I love how it reacts around the green. … I started hitting some shots that were about 60 yards, 70 yards and the launch was much lower, but Spinnier.

“It seems like it might have been a degree lower for me, but the rotation speed is very, very similar and I really like it.

“Yes, I did some tests on this and I really like it. Even though it was a low pressure golf ball, the driver didn’t seem to lose any speed either.”

McIlroy also tried QI35 wood

Due to the TP5 ball change, McIlroy began to patch the rest of his schoolbags.

McIlroy was shaking at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in early March.

He replaced his reliable Taylormade QI10 driver, 3-wood, 5-wood exchange, and also abandoned the 50-degree Taylormade MG4 wedge to swap three new Taylormade QI35 Woods and 48-degree MG4 Pitching Wedge.

But after a disappointing three-round match, he returned to his old favorites and ended up trailing eight shots in Championship champion Russell Henley and tied for $349,000 for the 15th.

“I led the stroke: stand out in the pebble and Tobble and Torrey’s t-shirts, so changing is a good idea,” McIlroy said.

“[Saturday]I lost my strokes from the tee, the first time I did it in a long time. Yes, just returned to something familiar and comfortable.

“I tried new woods in the first three days and didn’t work exactly the way I wanted.

Go to QI35 Driver

McIlroy continued to move forward with his QI10 driver, but he sounded a change again after finishing No. 47 in the PGA Championship.

For the Canadian Open in June, McIlroy made the QI35 driver shorter and was the main weapon.

But the switch didn’t help, he missed the cut. Admitted that after the lowest spot in his PGA Tour career, he is “still looking for the work missing in Tee”.

McIlroy said after the first round: “I played some motivation that I liked and loved seeing, so it was encouraging… Just like the driver, it was hard to be like that motivation that I had played with before, and when I missed it, I had a little left.”

“And I missed that.

McIlroy went to “test a lot of drivers” before the U.S. Open and admitted that he “didn’t use the right driver!”

He returned to the QI10 Driver Open U.S. Open and earned $243,070 after finishing T19.

Slope upgraded to MG5

For the opening of Ireland, McIlroy changed his MG4 wedges (46°, 50°, 54°, 60°) to the new MG5 kit, which includes a 60°LB LOB wedge that still bends to 61°, as well as the MG5 46°, 50°, 50° and 54° wedges.

The new wedge helped him finish the ninth place: around the green, scoring 0.95 on the field, over 70% of the competition, five of the six Bunker Saves.

But we all know that that day and that day were the real heroes.
