NHL Rumors: Quinn Hughes trade talks a league no-no

Are Quinn Hughes’ trade talks bad for business?

Friedman: “What I’m saying is, people don’t want to talk about this in the league. They don’t want to talk about Quinn Hughes. I think it’s because they know how big this is. So let me walk you through it.
…
Now, at the end of this, I ask, well, we know they like those guys. There has to be an element of Quinn Hughes in this. I have to tell you, Kyle, people don’t want to talk about it. They really don’t know, because it’s a grenade, for obvious reasons. “
Bukauskas: “Yeah, it’s like a David Blaine escape routine.”
Friedman: “Exactly. I think, I mean, you saw how careful I was about talking about it on Saturday night. But Quinn Hughes called Tom Fitzgerald after the game. People were like, he’s a devil. He calls the general manager his nickname. I mean, we can all see that. Like this is a big deal. I think for a lot of people, it’s kryptonite. They really don’t want to add fuel to the fire.”
But like I said, I think once the Canucks put out the memo, I think there was a conversation. I don’t know who started it or exactly what was said, but I know they talked about it at least once. I’ve heard it’s about, okay, where is everything and where are we going?
NHL Rumors: Sabers and Uko-Pekka Lukonen, Canucks and Quinn Hughes
And, I did a podcast interview last week where I talked about Detroit. I do believe that if Vancouver and Detroit want to make a deal, I do believe that a deal can be made there, and I also think they’ve had conversations.
But I can tell you one team absolutely doesn’t want to talk about it, and that’s Vancouver. Like they flatly refused. I understand because it’s their backyard. This is a very, very sensitive thing for them.
So I will say, I think there are negotiations going on around Hughes and it’s hard to put a limit on how long those negotiations will take or what they will end up being.
I’ll tell you this. The other thing is Kyle, it’s really interesting, I haven’t spoken to Hughes since we were interviewed on the early-season media tour in Vegas. There are a lot of people who like to debate whether he wants to play in New Jersey. Like, does he want to go there now? Is this his preferred destination? If Quinn was on the blue line, (Quinn) would be ahead of (Luke), and what impact would that have on his brother, Luke?
NHL Rumors: Quinn Hughes Asked About New Jersey Devils Trade Talks
I don’t have an answer to that question, but at least I think the Canucks and Devils want to try to find out. I think that’s it. I think. I think the team is talking to the Canucks about it and we’ll see how things play out. “
