According to court records, TMZ Sports obtained Edey’s violation and agreed to pay $639.50 in exchange for officials abandoning the misdemeanor reckless driving charge he faced.
The court case was met with a 23-year-old man on May 1 with Indiana police in West Lafayette. Officers claimed they caught Edey at 101 mph in the 2023 mile/hour zone of Kia Sorento.
According to the official police report, Eddie said he knew why he was stopping and said he was “passing the vehicle” at a high speed.
The incident happened a few days after the Grizzlies’ season ended. In the first round of the playoffs, Memphis lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games.
Last year, the Grizzlies selected Zach Eddy from Purdue University
Edey was selected as 9th by the Grizzlies at the 2024 NBA Draft at Purdue University. The Torontoist is the National College Player of the Year, where he is two times and two times bigger than ten players.
The 7-foot-4 big man is the highest active player in the NBA right now.
Last season’s 66 games (55 games) averaged 9.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.3 blocks and 21.5 minutes of games in the Grizzlies, while shooting 58% on the field, 34.6% and 70.9% of the foul line.
According to basketball reference, he ranks 17th with rebounds per game, 8th with offensive rebounds (232), 6th with offensive boards per game (3.5) and 20th with blocks (85).
Edey ranked fifth in NBA rookie voting of the year
Edey was also named the NBA All-Rookie first team, and he ranked fifth in the Rookie of the Year vote.
The big guys are behind Stephen Castle (San Antonio Spurs), Zaccharie Risacher (Atlanta Hawks), Jaylen Wells (Grizzlies) and Alex Sarr (Washington Wizards).
Teammate Jaren Jackson Jr. appeared on Chris Vernon’s show last September, praising Edey’s efficient shooting and dynamic playback ability.
“He’s great. I wish he did everything himself, I can’t just come here and say he did it, it’s. I can’t say he did it all,” Jackson said.
What you think he might not be able to do, but [he did]. … Feeling good, very capable of talking in the game. This guy won Player of the Year twice. He understood. ”
